Our one-year old tri-colored Collie, Douglas, loves toys. Specifically, he loves stuffed dolls like this one we purchase for him. This particular one squeaks when squeezed in two separate areas...he loves it! He'll walk around the house with his doll du jour in his mouth, gumming it, playing with it, just having a great old time with his plaything.
His real pleasure, however, is when he can rummage at leisure through the wooden box where we store balls, stuffed dolls, chewies, etc. for our three Shelties...
When Douggie gets to the wooden crate, he'll proceed to root around and eventually remove toy after toy, playing with each for only a second or two. At some point he'll find a chewie that's especially tasty, perhaps flavored with the dried saliva of one of our other dogs. He'll be in his glory as he chomps away on it, only devoting about two or three minutes to the endeavor before yet another item of interest beckons his attention. Then, it's back to the wooden box to search for whatever is calling him for additional enjoyment.
In about an hour or so the floor will be littered with his efforts, looking much like a child's romm after s/he has rummaged through a toy box, searching for that ellusive Mother of All Toys. We have yet to teach him to put all the toys back in the box; that's probably a story for another day...if it ever actually occurs! |
