A New Den?
Apr 14, 2006 at 04:51 PM
Our family (including dogs, of course) has lived in a certain house in a certain state for a few years. As a matter of fact, our furry friends have only known residence in the state we're presently living in. The pack has certainly acclimatized itself to our immediate environs.

So, what can they expect if/when we relocate to a new state, an area with new smells, a new den, and perhaps even new food?

I suppose the most important thing in any pending move is to remember that we, as the alpha parents, will still be around, still on the scene so that at least a semblance of normalcy will remain in their lives. We'll maintain our potty schedules, play times, eating times and any other devices we can employ to help make their transition to a new environment as smooth as it can be.

This is because we recognize the responsibility we have toward our canine companions. Undoubtedly our relationship with one another goes back to time immemorial, when Pre-dawn Man first made the acquaintance of Ancient Dog, most probably while both were foraging for food. Over the years our relationship with the canine evolved into more than mere calorie satisfying hunts. We now depend on each other for friendship, comfort and solace.

We recognize our duty to feed, protect and care for our friends. They merely love us unconditionally in return. As has been said before, this is perhaps the greatest bargain we'll ever realize.
