As I'm writing this post, one of our Shelties, Declan, is sitting right next to me in my reclining chair. Now, this little guy is alpha dog of the pack, bossing the other dogs around as, well, the leader of the pack. I think he enjoys sittin' next to me because he feels it's his job to "guard" me from the other dogs. In fact, if he's not near me, then usually his other, Lyric, is sitting right by me feet. She's an alpha wanna-be, who is second in command because the alpha gene is just so strong in her son, Declan.

By the way, there's NO WAY you'd ever know mother & son are related. There's absolutely no affinity between the two of 'em.
