The post immediately below this one talks about the heat we're experiencing here on the East coast. Sure, it is hot, by my mission, my goal is to get our place fenced in so that we can let our dogs run free. That's what they were used to back in the home we just moved from; only difference is, back there they had the proverbial postage stamp sized yard to run around in. Here at the new world headquarters of Presto Dog, they'll have quite a larger area to get their exercize, play and cause mischief.
Today, I assembled around 100' of fencing (that's a total of 720' I've done & I'm just about half way finished...sheesh!). Last week while working on this massive project I had to leave one of the corners un-done 'cause when the auger man tried to dig it, he encountered a huge rock that even his heavy duty equipment couldn't budge.
I spent about an hour or so on that one corner, maneuvering rocks out of the way so I could at least get the darn post into the ground. Lo and behold, I lucked out 'cause I was able to wedge the thing in (after cutting about 4" off the bottom with our new 14" chain saw). I then put the rails into it and surrounded the base of the post that's underground with what seemed to be an endless number of rocks. When I was finished, the darn post wouldn't move an inch when I tried to shake it in its hole!
By the time I finished with that corner, it was about 10:00 a.m. & felt like it was at least 85 degrees. Most of the work I needed to do was in the sun but as I said, my mission is to get our place fenced in so our four Shelties (Lyric, Lily, Declan & Maggie) and tri-color Collie (named Dougie) can enjoy themselves in their new environment. I worked until 12 noon and then called it a day, effectively adhering to the tropical hours work ethic that's necessary in heat such as I experienced today. I anticipate I'm within about five work-days of finishine constructing the fence and gates. I'll then needed to attach chicken wire around the whole thing to make sure our friends remain within the confines of their area.
Soon, my four legged friends, real soon...
