Dougie Spooked by Wildlife
Apr 08, 2007 at 12:18 PM
Clean, scrub, paint and sweep. Saw, drill, hammer and nail. This is our mantra; this is how we are now living our lives. But these aren't bad things, 'cause they represent if not the sum total, at least a significant part of how we are spending our weekends. If you've read prior post on this site, you'll probably get the feeling that we're really involved with new real estate...and you'd be correct in your assumption. We've been driving to and fixing up the new Presto Dog Phunny Pharm for our imminent move in, about four weeks from now.

The place offers a new world to our dogs, in that there'll be a large tract of land and a veritable plethora of wildlife in the general area. Deer, chickens and cows are just a few of the species that come readily to mind. Although our fondest wish is for all to co-habitate in a peaceful manner, one of them put a scare into Dougie, our two-year old tri-color Collie.

In addition to the fauna residing nearby, the house (den) itself has windows a mere seven to eight inches off the floor, providing unobstructed views to all areas by the pack. As the dogs were lounging on the floor in the breakfast nook, Dougie, our Collie, happened to notice a shadow course its way across the floor. Not knowing what this was, he hauled his huge hulk off the floor and looked out one of the aforementioned windows. Within seconds of searching for the cause of the shadow, Dougie located same and proceeded to voice his concern via loud barks. This in turn roused the three Shelties and in no time a cacaphony of sound ensued, bringing the bride and myself to the general area to try and determine what the ruckus was all about. Looking out the window, we immedaitely saw the problem.

There, in all its resplendent glory, was a wild turkey, apparently seeking a tidbit of some variety on our lawn. As a car approached, the bird spread its wings and took to the air, vaguely reminiscent of Rodan or some ancient pterodactyl from the pre-historic era..the thing was huge! Then, a minute or so later, the turkey returned to finish its meal, much to the consternation of our pack once again.

Dougie was much afeared by these happenings but we know in no time he'll become accustomed to his new environment.

We think we've made the correct decision in procuring the Presto Dog Phunny Pharm.
