Deckie the Reclining Chair OWNER
Feb 28, 2007 at 01:21 PM
A couple of weeks ago or so, I posted an article here on Presto Dog about Declan, one of our three Shelties, who liked to crawl up into my lap as I sat in our living room recliner. I believe I alluded to the fact that he was exerting his alpha dog tendencies in that by performing this action, he could get closer to me than his mother, Lyric, who also possesses the alpha dog trait.

Here's a few shots of Declan:

As a few more days have transpired since I first wrote about this matter, I have re-thought my initial feelings on the dog's behavior and have come up with the real meaning of the activity in question. Here's the background of why I've had this epiphany...

Yesterday, I received notification that a picture had arrived on my cell phone of one of our dogs. See, my bride likes to use her phone to take cute shots of the dogs when they're sleeping on our chairs, playing in the snow, etc. She then forwards 'em on to me while I'm at work so I can appreciate the little rascals' activities.

So, I quickly took my phone out, pressed the buttons to view the picture and before my eyes appeared a shot of Deckie who had, all by himself without any human intervention, jumped up into the recliner where we had shared such sweet memories together.

All this time I thought Declan wanted to sit on my lap when he really only wanted the whole chair all to himself!
