Super Bowl Dogs
Jan 31, 2007 at 07:51 AM
This weekend, two teams will meet and determine who will be crowned the champion of the whole universe in a contest known as the Super Bowl. However, in addition to the game itself, it's also become a time when chips, salsa and assorted other snack foods are sold and consumed at a record-setting pace.
At Presto Dog world headquarters, we will probably watch the game, or at least part of it, and enjoy a favorite snack or two, also. This might include a tasty little item that consists of a Triscuit cracker topped with cheese, summer sausage (or pepperoni) placed in the microwave for about 20 or 30 seconds and then topped with a slice of green olive. As the evening wears on and the chore of assembling all those separate ingredients grows too arduous, we'll just lop off chunks of the cheese & pepperoni, slap it on a cracker and scarf it all down, all without ever having to leave our chairs placed around the TV set. We fully intended on living the quintessential Sedentary Sunday if only for a single, precious day. To that end, I purchased all the necessary medical equipment from a supplier to hook myself up to a catheter for the duration of the game. However, this action has subsequently been ruled an "illegal procedure" by my bride & I'll therefore be forced to take any nature calls to the bathroom.

As this web site is dedicated to the dog (and not the recreational pursuits or creature comfort endeavors of human kind), we have given consideration to the needs of our canine contingent, too. Our three Shelties & tri-color Collie:

...will be hovering around us while we imbibe, ever hopeful that a bit of cheese or perhaps the entire summer sausage or bag of pepperoni slices will fall to the floor where the fastest member of the pack can snatch it up and gobble it down before we can react. Since that occurrence probably ain't gonna happen, we'll most likely buy a special treat or two for our pack members so they can enjoy the game at their leisure, too.

I'll probably write about our dogs' reactions to the game in a post next week. I've caught one of them eyeing a play or two on the TV during the course of the football season so there just might be some canine interest in the outcome of the big game itself from their viewpoint. Perhaps one of them has placed a bet and is expecting some big winnings?

In order as shown above, here are the names of the Presto Dog pack accompanied with the nick-names we've lovingly bestowed upon them: Douglas (Dougie), Lily (Hammerhead), Lyric (the Chief of Police) and Declan (Alpha Boy).
