Alpha Dog Tendencies
Jan 09, 2007 at 04:26 PM
A couple of weeks ago, we bought a new Laz-E-Boy recliner for our living room. It's where I write the postings such as this one you read here on the Presto Dog web site. I'm able to balance my trusty ol' laptop on my lap, effectively providing the functionality for which it was created.

Anyway, the area immediately in front of the chair has become the place of honor for the two dogs in our pack that exhibit strong alpha tendencies...Lyric and Declan. Whenever I try to get up, at least one of those dogs is invariably in front of the chair, protesting my activity.

I don't understand why the real estate mentioned is so important to these two dogs. It's as if when one of them decides to do something, it becomes the "thing to do" from now on & it coveted thereafter.

Here's a previously published shot showing, in order, Lily standing with Lyric & Declan resting side by side, with my classic estate sneakers under a plastic table in the background:

They're great dogs, all of them, but we call their strange antics "herding dog weirdness" for lack of a more formal designation.
