Dougie Passed Away
Sep 03, 2009 at 10:38 PM

Sure, you're right, I haven't updated this blog in a while...months, in fact. But, the wind was sort of taken out of my sails. You see, our good egg, Dougie the tri-color Collie, passed away on May 9, 2009.

He received a rabies' shot on 3/29/09 and it made his immune system go wacky. He passed away in the arms of the Presto Dog First Lady on the date noted above. I have tears in my eyes just writing about this tragic event. Of course, we'll never forget that guy. What a lovable, goofy guy!

There's rumors we'll have another Collie as a part of our pack in the not-too-distant future...we'll keep you posted.

Dougie...we hardly knew ye.

New Shetland Sheepdog

Yup, we'e gone & done it again. We have another Sheltie in our den. Now this isn't a permanent situation...we're merely "dog-sitting for a friend. She's a little puppy & her name is Amy.

I managed (of course!) to take some pictures of Amy. Feast your eyes!

Here's a shot of Amy on a make-believe judge's table (This shot is also repeated in the post right below this one but she's so cute I couldn't resist posting it again!):

Berks County Dog Show
Apr 05, 2009 at 06:54 PM

We loaded up our trusty van (GMC Safari), hit the road and by 9:00 a,m, or so this morning were at the latest dog show we entered our li'l Maggie in. For those of you that may not be familiar with the Presto Dog pack, Maggie is our Shetland Sheepdog show dog. She's about 2 years, 2 months old and to date has shown a real affinity for the ring.

Here's our gal as she patiently waits to receive a treat in the ring:

She didn't win her group, but as always we had fun with our "dog people" friends.

I don"t think I mentioned this previously, but the Presto Dog First Lady is dog-sitting for one of our friends. The pup's name is Amy and she's sure to start acquiring points in the ring in a few short months. Here's a picture of Amy as she tries to understand the table she needs to stand on for the judge is really not that intimidating:

I snapped another picture of Amy as the judge looked her over. I'm happy to say that the judge eventually mentioned she's a real fine looking Sheltie:

Chatti is another Sheltie pup that was entered in the show today:

Hope you enjoyed the photos!

Still More Dog Pictures!
Mar 22, 2009 at 11:40 AM

Hey! I took out the trusty ol' Presto Dog camera and took some more pictures of our pack as they were frolicking in the yard (a.k.a., pastureland) earlier today.

To start off, here's a picture of two of our Shelties, Lily (top) and Maggie, staring in abject amazement at their shadows:

Next up, we see Lily with a deflated ball. Nothing wrong with that, folks, 'cause it makes it easier for any of our pack members to pick it up as they romp & play:

Maggie waits for me to take a few steps forward and kick her yellow ball so that she can run after it, retrieve it, and start the process all over again:

Now, here's Declan, our little Sheltie alpha dog, squinting in the bright sunlight as he was looking off into the distance:

Lyric, the elder states person of the Presto Dog pack at ten very healthy years of age barks at nothing in particular. Of course, she's yet another fine example of a Sheltie:

And here's Dougie, the good egg as I call him, watching some interesting activity at the barn next to our place. He's a Collie and doesn't quite understand why he's so big in comparison with the four Shelties he's grown up with. I guess he feels like Gulliver in the land of the Lilliputians:

Canine Temperment & Dog Pictures
Mar 22, 2009 at 09:43 AM

Here at the Presto Dog world headquarters, we have a total of five dogs. In case you're not familiar with them, or if you merely want to get re-acquainted with my friends, I decided to blog for a few moments about our pack. I've also added some pictures for you to check out. So, in age-order, here are our dogs:

Lyric-This wonderful ShetlandSeepdog is the elder statesperson of the pack. She's the grand dame at ten years old and still remains a very active dog. Just yesterday she was outrunning at (just about) full speed with two of the younger members of the pack in the Presto Dog pasture land. We've always noted theat there's two basic requirements for Lyric: she wants to be at her home and wants to eat...o time. She really doesn't enjoy traveling, having visitors over, etc. Just give her a home & eats & he's perfectly happy! She also is our most obedient dog-always doing what she's told. Take a look at the Chief of Police as I sometimes refer to Lyric:

Lily-Definately our sweetest dog. Seven year old Lily asks for things by being cute. If this Sheltie wants a bite of my food (all the time, BTW!) or wants to go out or play, she's the one who'll place her pretty head on my leg, looking at me with her gorgeous eyes. She's a bit shy, really doesn't enjoy strangers ion her den. As a matter of fact, she'll bark and bark when someone comes over to visit. We think she's scared of the invaders and is asking them to leave. But, after about 10-15 minutes, she'll calm down and accept our visitors...albeit reluctantly. And, she'll also eat some strange things. A few month ago we incurred a nice lttle vet bill for the surgical removal of several pieces of plastic she had somehow injested. We didn't don't know how she obtained the stuff she ate, nor did the vet or the members of the dog club we belong to able to. And, none of us was able figure out what the heck she had eaten! I took a picture in our sunny breakfast room of what what Lily ate; that's a quarter on the left for size reference...she didn't eat that, too! Do you have any idea what the heck this stuff is?

Here's Lily with one of her balls:

Declan-The Presto Dog alpha dog. This almost seven year old little Sheltie (he's actually the smallest of all the dogs we have) bosses all the other ones around. Since day one, he's been the "Little King" of the pack. He feels that it's his job to maKe sure that the pack adheres to his rule. We do't let him reign supreme, however; we make sure that he treats the other dogs properly. He also enjoys a good run in that whenever we go out in the pasture land he usually takes off like a rocket with one or more of the other pack members running after him. And, he's shown a real affinity toward agility, running through tunnels, chutes and practically flying over jumps, barking merrily all the way. The Little King himself in full stride:

Douglas-Our tri-color Collie will be four years old in another month and I refer to himas a good egg. He's a very pleasant dog, always smiling. He also recognizes that Declan (see above) is the alpha dog and doesn't, thank goodness, try to userp the Little King's self-appointed role as the leader of the pack. Dougie's at least four-times bigger than the Shelties so if he decided to take issue with their antics we'd have an absolute disaster on our hands. But this gentle giant wouldn't harm a fly, or a flea for that matter. He's just a big, pleasant dog that enjoys his family. I also need to mention that when he's outside he enjoys watching for birds flying overhead and then chasing them. BTW, we refer to birds as "air space violators" and Dougie is quite vigilant at patrolling his area, making sure that none congregate on his watch. Check out Dougie checking out some interesting scents:

Maggie-Our two year old Sheltie show dog. Blog entries (ad nauseum?) have been written here on the Presto Dog web site about the adventures of Maggie as we enter her in show (after show) in pursuit of acquiring those elusive points toward her championship ranking. But, she also spends time with her pack mates being a real dog. That means running oiutside with Declan, getting muddy when it's raining out and playing like a maniac when given the opportunity. We really enjoy the places, people and other show dogs we've been able to visit/meet as we've followed the show dog circuit over the past two years. One of the countless shots we have of the Little Magpie as I affectionately refer to her:
